I'm obsessed with cool sorcery. I've been posting about him so much since 2022 and nobody will listen to me and it's the worst because he can do no wrong
he counts!! tbh I would throw him into every single playlist if I could justify it. and I have not heard of vultures hyenas and coyotes but that's such a good band name damn
The first couple people who come to mind are PENNY and Stas THEE Boss.
Both of which I associate with the hangover of the pandemic for whatever reason. Stuck at home or scared at home hermitting in 2021, and, in my mind, before algorithms got fucked to the level they currently are on YouTube and the grams.
Laid back, but potent. PENNY has this melancholy echoing earnestness. Stas, this atmospheric cool vibe of beats and flow.
Hi Gabbie, you are doing a great job here and further to your request for new band suggestions, here are 3 UK artists (2 from Bristol, 1 from Swansea) from me:
Agreed! I have seen them twice (Green Man and Crofters Rights) and they have been excellent both times. Really looking forward to their imminent album release.
I'm very excited about Babi! Probably on the other end of the spectrum, but I humbly offer Meril Wubslin, a Swiss/Belgian trio who are very good at walking the line between delicate / intricate and enormous / destructive. They make tight songs that travel. Their latest, Faire Ça, is probably a good late autumn, early winter mood hit.
My ear is not to the ground as much these days (that's why we're here, right?), but Perennial have got me hooked. Kind of a turned-up early aughts garage sound, I guess? New album came out in June, but their whole catalog is worthy.
They opened the Bad Moves, who you mentioned recently, record release shows.
oh I don't necessarily think everyone has to be super tapped in to participate in this! I'm always down for self promotion and friend promotion, for instance.
but yeah openers are such a great place to find great new music
Been enjoying Raavi, who writes a great track for a quiet fall morning. Lots of long vocal notes, which creates this subtle drone effect over an indie folk palette. They are doing some interesting things with guitar too. Notes of Joni here and there. Their latest EP: https://open.spotify.com/album/2S8hsVC1PPjXwZcnoz4HWd?si=qsJG7tb9RgOJ22tK1i5KwQ
I've found a couple of artists and tracks that have absolutely floored me this week.
First up: Kasey Chambers (Australian country muso) covering Eminem's Lose Yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S70xek3x4ro Never really been a Kasey fan but this is next level gutsy and a stunning rework in totally different genre to the original.
Second: Ren Gill from Wales. Goes by 'Ren'. His 'Hi Ren' track is sublime. Then I dug some more of his catalogue and it is utterly brilliant. 'Violet's Tale' made me cry and Money Game Parts 1,2,3 are pure genius.
I've not had music move me as much as these tracks in a very long time.
Just joined substack and listened to some of the tracks posted by you. So much good music out there! if it is valid to suggest my own music then I put these two tracks here just in case :)
Ok, one more? More Milwaukee buddies are all over this thing. It’s only a few weeks old and the vinyl is scheduled to hit in late November. This track is on heavy rotation at my house. Super proud of everyone involved from the players to the engineers to the graphics team. Triple Eye are good people who are doing great work here in the overlooked Great Lakes.
Cool Sorcery!

Listened to 1 song and I'm a fan! Sorry for not listening earlier!
Really interested in knowing what song converted you. Every single album is awesome, but I'm especially partially to the first few.
hahahaha I'm not sure I really preached his gospel here on Substack to be fair
Amazing artist and even better person for sure. That one doesn't count if you're already THAT big a fan, lol.
How about... Vultures, Hyenas and Coyotes?

You're probably going to be like, "Oh yeah, I know them personally," but just in case.
Makes my heart happy that you're doing this ❤️ looking forward to getting my ears into this playlist.
Love this band from the North East of England and love this song - it's mean and moody and everything excellent:

both sound great, thanks for sharing!
I am enjoying Shannon and the Clams, King Tuff, the Shivas, and other retro semi surf rock vibes lately
I have King Tuff on a playlist somewhere, lord knows which one ... thanks!!
