It's the monthly playlist that you helped create! Tell me about your favorite new artists that nobody else has heard of, then come back next month to hear everyone's picks & keep the cycle going.
This is a great idea! These are a few artists that I think deserve a bit more recognition than they currently have. Looking forward to discovering a few more.
Probably too late for this playlist, but a local band (to me) that fits the criteria for sure is New Zealand band Coast Arcade, surfy Garage pop punk, but their new song Baited is rock-ier than their other tunes and an absolute ear worm.
I've just come across your Tik Tok via Patrick Hicks and love it!
Probably quite different than what the usual audience here is into, but, I want to plug local-to-me Sentimental Family Band. They do an amazing job of recreating ~'50s-70s style honky tonk country music. Spotify says they have 7.3k monthly listeners. For fans of Faye Webster and Patsy Cline alike! https://open.spotify.com/album/2FPcTzlrU6B9pxQ8xCm10g?si=JY87npZsRh2G9lbBQmy-HA
i added a footnote to this effect, but I'm definitely relaxing the criteria because I don't have enough followers yet and I think I've exhausted everyone's resources the first go round! i can fill up these playlists myself in the meantime but that's not as much fun
awesome, can't wait to check it out. i'm a little nervous it's going to be mostly me pulling it together from now on (unless this newsletter gets a big break somehow - ha!) but i'm committed to the bit.
Also, not a new artist, but criminally underrated and underlistened(?) — Chris Helme, who fronted the post Stone Roses John Squire project the Seahorses in the 90s. Since then, he has consistently put out great music, stripped-back acoustic, soulful and folky work that has showcased his incredible voice and songwriting. He had a great new album out earlier in the year that mostly went ignored.
Just downloaded this for a flight I have this week, excited to get in the zone!
As for suggestions in the realm of moodiness, I’d like to share a song by Pony Talk (full disclosure: I am in said band!) called Shoes Untied. Friends have told us it gives them spice girls/mac demarco vibes. I think it’s good for randomly bursting into existential crisis tears while running errands.
I have already come across you guys! I don't have any recollection how or why (did you send me stuff before? That would make the most sense I guess) but I already had that song saved somewhere. Diving in soon!
This is great! I’ll do the check out my band thing… we’re an instrumental trio. ambient country. guitar. lap steel. synth.

If it's too late this month I'll try again next.
each month’s post provides a playlist but gathers new music for the next month’s! so it’s definitely not too late to submit for #3 :) thanks so much!

Oops, having trouble with reading comprehension! Let me find someone even more obscure.
Ok, this is a new local-to-me band who disappeared after putting out these two songs last year that I absolutely love. I hope they're just feverishly working on a full album. 132 monthly listeners! https://open.spotify.com/album/0di4CCjMpUpZpQ2FFO3DEr?si=Nq06PYL-R4aN6jZjxjo05g
Another great list—well done, everyone. This will be my commute playlist for this week.
As for future suggestions, I'm currently enjoying Too Dark by new-ish London indie four piece Lighthouse.

Thanks to you I'm listening to Shawna Pair while I make dinner tonight and it pairs well with a glass of wine and my terrible dancing, thanks! 😄

I always have a "new old discoveries" playlist going too, so this sort of thing is always appreciated

I think our guitarist Ryan might have! He introduced me to your TikTok and it was an instant follow, love this!
