It's a pleasure to be here; finding and sharing music is one of life's great joys. I'm thrilled that I found your suggestions originally on TikTok, and I'm excited to follow along here, too.
I try following you where you are and it's a nice coincidence I've just joined substack so thank you. I'm looking forward to reading more, I enjoy your recs
I’m here for it, especially after you mentioned on IG that your bf thought no one would subscribe! I keep up with new music on The Current (Minnesota’s very good public radio station) but I’m always up for more.
ha ha that's what motivated me to publish in time for July 1 (my mental "due date"). i had considered not doing this at all but my goodness do I love doing things out of spite!
Just found your Substack and I’m incredibly grateful and simultaneously embarrassed to realize I’m so cliche…So glad you’re doing this - desperately needed for lame old millennials like me!
In my early thirties I was genuinely surprised but the lack of new music in my life. In my late thirties, I now think the lack of new music was a leading indicator of a wholesale mid-life malaise. Once we're sure we know what we like, we're less open to life in the now, and sure enough everything starts to feel old and played out. I'm optimistic that opening up to new music again will turn out to be a leading indicator of a more youthful, energetic phase of life to come...
So I love this concept. Scanning ahead for the "if you liked Radiohead..." post :) Looking forward to reading!
Oh Good Lord yes, a person not an algorithm. I got nothing against spotify (except the way they grub for $), or pandora, or last.fm or any of the others; and both bandcamp and soundcloud are great if you have a little hint; and there're still a couple of real radio stations out there. I have also had some good luck following my nose on rateyourmusic.com , looking at what people like who like what I like. (Have actually discovered Old Music this way too.) But intelligent writing -- something that will not be just a suggestion but a little bit of context and rationale -- this is getting harder to find. Looking forward to listening in.
